I was only eight among the other kids slightly older than me. Blue and white uniforms, ribbons in their hair, the bustle of quiet chatter moving around me. Ununiformed I sat in the middle of the group, in their classroom, feeling so connected yet foreign. The smell of chalk and the wooden desks, the crisp breeze and warm sun sweeping into the room. My father took me there so I could distribute stationary to the children at the school. Although it was a small blip in my life, I now realize after some years have passed, a subtle part of me really changed in how I viewed the world, the privilege I had and how much work there was still to be done in our society.
